posted Feb 22, 2012 12:20 PM by Doug Hyde   [ updated Feb 22, 2012 12:21 PM ]

Mark your calendars for April 4, 2012 as a special day!  The Redvers Ag Ex & Bull Congress is on that day from 9:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. at the Redvers Recreation Center, and we'll be there to meet you and accept samples of any grain products you may have in stock.

We are expanding the export side of our business and there are some exciting opportunities developing - especially in the bird food markets.  Clement will be there to speak to you in person, and is excited about meeting you!  He will answer your questions about our expanding operation, and opportunities that exist for us to partner with you in finding markets for your products.  Come on out and look us up!

If you want to connect with us before the show, then give Clement a call at 1-204-526-2145 - or e-mail him at sales@zeghersseed.com

Remember the date, April 4, 2012  ... in Redvers, Saskatchewan.

Wheat & barley marketing options ...

posted Feb 3, 2012 2:10 PM by Doug Hyde

With the market opening up this fall as a result of the changes to the CWB Act, we trust that you will consider the options of selling your wheat and barley into some of the available niche markets that smaller companies such as Zeghers Seed Inc. have access to. We are currently analysing our customer base - both current and potential - to determine what opportunities are available.

Although we may not have the same "clout" as some of the giants of the industry ... we can be pretty nimble on our feet. So don't count us out!

We are and will be looking for samples that we can provide to our contacts in the industry.  Give Clement or Shawn a call at 1-204-526-2145 or drop them an e-mail at sales@zeghersseed.com.   Thanks!!

Our annual HACCP & CCSP audits are complete!

posted Jan 24, 2012 9:31 AM by Doug Hyde

For Zeghers Seed Inc. to remain HACCP & CCSP approved/certified, we must be independently audited on an annual basis to ensure that we are giving more than just lip service to quality and food safety.  The audit process has just been completed ... successfully!

We have learned much about the continuous improvement process that goes hand in hand with HACCP and the prerequisite programs like our GMP's.  We have a few things in our programs that we need to tweak & modify to make them even more effective - and we were working on them before the auditor's chair had even cooled off!

Our management team - and our team of well trained operators - remain committed to the cause of quality and food safety.  We recognize that our customers and the end-users of our products are becoming more sophisticated & aware of the risks that are present in the food industry.  We are working hard to build our reputation in the marketplace.

We don't just say we believe in the principles and values that food safety & quality programs are built upon ... we base our future on those principles and values!

There is an ExcelGrains Canada workshop coming up in Portage la Prairie on Thursday, February 9 that area producers should mark on their calendars. It runs from 1 pm through to ~ 4:00 pm at the Portage Fairboard Office on the "Island".  More details are in the attached flyer.

Are you aware that there is funding available to you to help with the implementation of an on-farm traceability program?  See the attached document for details!

The successful implementation of ExcelGrains Canada makes you eligible to join "Our Proven Partners" program, and enhances the marketability of your products!

Rusty Grain Beetles

posted Dec 30, 2011 9:02 AM by Doug Hyde   [ updated Jan 5, 2012 9:13 AM ]

It would appear that a negative side effect of the unusually mild weather we have been enjoying* is grain storage issues.  We strongly encourage our producer partners to be proactive in checking the condition of your stored grain.  We have found evidence of rusty grain beetle activity in stored wheat in one of our partners' bins - so be sure to check ... it's time and energy well invested!!

(*unless you happen to be a "sledhead"!)

"Our Proven Partner" questionnaire

posted Dec 21, 2011 7:57 AM by Doug Hyde   [ updated Dec 21, 2011 9:17 AM ]

We have sent out "Our Proven Partner" questionnaires electronically to many of our producer partners.  Thank you to those of you who have responded already - even those of you who don't have a tracking "system" in place as yet.  We value your feedback, and we want to remind you that not having a formal system in place will not prevent you from being able to market your products with us.  HOWEVER - having a traceability system expands the marketability of your products - it opens more opportunities for you, and this in turn will bring you greater returns!!!  It's good business!

If you've not received a copy of the questionnaire, I've attached a copy on this "blurb" that you can download, fill out and return to us. Thanks!!  For more information, give us a call at 1-204-526-2145, or e-mail us at info@zeghersseed.com ...  or drop by and have a coffee with us - we want to work with you!!

Oh - and a very Merry Christmas & Happy New Year to all!

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year to all our customers, producer partners, and other business partners (that includes our suppliers!).  We trust that you will remain safe, and be able to enjoy this special holiday season!!

CHECK YOUR BINS!!!

posted Dec 1, 2011 9:00 AM by Doug Hyde

We have had some of our producer partners tell us that they've had to turn a few bins of their stored canola.  It does not take long for a bin to spoil once the process starts ... and that can potentially cost you a lot of money.

We remind you to take the time to monitor the condition of your stored grains - especially the oilseeds (cereal crops will spoil as well - just not as readily).  A small investment of time and energy can save you thousands of dollars!!!
