We just received an update from the Canadian Grain Commission regarding the risk of "OCHRATOXIN" forming in improperly stored grains. Ochratoxin (OTA) has the potential to form in cereal grains that are stored with moisture levels above the percentage that has been determined as "dry" by industry accepted standards. The attached Q & A document helps to shed some light on this concern, and indicates that if Producers and Grain Handlers follow accepted GMP's and ensure that the condition of stored grains are monitored closely and storage bins are aerated properly, then OTA should remain a virtual non-issue. |
